PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a popular and effective form of long-term contraception. If you’re considering an IUD or already have one, it’s important to understand what they are, how they work, and what to expect. This page provides links to the manufacturer’s Prescribing Information documents. One link is to the most recent version in PDF format, and the other is to an auto-updated webpage (which may not work in your country). You can download a PDF version from both links to read later.

What are IUDS? IUDs are small, T-shaped devices that are inserted into the uterus by a healthcare provider. There are two main types of IUDs: hormonal and non-hormonal (copper). Both types work primarily by preventing sperm from fertilizing an egg. Hormonal IUDs release levonorgestrel, a form of progestin. Copper IUDs release copper ions, which are toxic to sperm and cause full-body inflammation.
